County Government Transparency

THE PROBLEM:

There is a gap in communication and transparency between the County government and its residents. In conducting the North Okaloosa Planning Study, the consultant concluded more transparency regarding decision making and various county government processes was needed (pages 15 & 18, Public Priorities Report, April 2024).

Currently, residents must actively seek out information about government actions and the impact on homes and communities. It is a laborious and time-consuming process.  This situation must change.

THE SOLUTION:

Transparency in decision making is crucial in keeping the trust of the community. I firmly believe it is the responsibility of County Commissioners to communicate with constituents, stay informed of residents’ concerns and interests, and proactively inform constituents of ongoing projects and solicit community input.

Some County programs are large and complicated, and simplifying complex programs into clear language and presentations that residents can understand is essential. Ample time for community engagement and feedback should be provided.

I will encourage the County to keep its social media and web sites effective in informing Constituents of County activity, including explaining the purpose, scope, timeline, potential benefits and drawbacks of projects. I will work to implement a one-stop spot for an encompassing County Calendar of Events and Public Notices.

I will hold regular Town Halls in my District and be available to constituents of the entire County.
